Shooting Instruction

Joshua Creek Ranch maintains full time shooting instructors for beginning shooters.  Shooting instruction for beginners will cover basic gun safety items such as how to carry a gun, how to properly load your gun, and how to aim and position your gun when shooting.  The differences between the various shotgun gauges are explained, as well as the kinds and varieties of shells, from the gauge to the differences between - - and the uses for -- lead and steel shot.  What is the difference between an over- and-under, or a side-by-side shotgun? What is meant by “high brass” and “low brass”?    Do I need to sight in a shotgun?  Why can't I hunt deer or turkey with a shotgun?  All of these questions and more are covered by an instructor.  Hunting etiquette and field safety rules are covered, as well.   You will be taken to our Wobble Trap, where your instructor will carefully guide you through the fundamentals of loading, aiming, and firing at clay targets.  From there, after a few rounds of target shooting, if you've scheduled a hunt, you're ready for the challenge of a covey of quail, or a ring-neck pheasant bursting from the high grass.

Professional instructors for more advanced shooters can be arranged with advance notice.
