Can I hunt with my own dog?
Yes, we encourage our guests to bring their dogs to Joshua Creek Ranch. The first question you need to ask yourself is simply, 'Is this a hunting experience or a training experience?" If you want to get your dog into a lot of birds, then this is the place to do it. However, if your dog is lacking some of the basic training commands, what you might want to schedule is a training hunt with our professional dog trainer. With a brief discussion, the dog trainer can ask you some very pertinent questions as to the progress of your dog, what training he's had and what commands he currently obeys. Then in a period of one to three hours, he can develop a hunt based upon sound training principals so that you're not just running your dog or running after him. If your dog is not totally under control and is busting birds at one hundred yards, that normally does not contribute to a good hunting experience. If you want a hunting experience with your dog, then our guide will simply accompany you as a field guide. Many of our guests have totally finished dogs, and it is a pleasure for us to hunt with them. Whether you would like a training or hunting experience with your dog, we can provide "the Best!"
