Clay Shooting

Located in the picturesque Texas Hill Country, the setting for clay target shooting at Joshua Creek Ranch is one of the most beautiful in the country according to well-traveled shooters. Guests can choose among three venues for shooting clays: the 15-station sporting clays course, the wobble trap, and the triple trap wobbler. Any of the three can be organized into a variety of scenarios such as instruction, practice, warm-up for wingshooting, competition, or games. All are available year-round within an easy walking distance of Cypress Lodge, or the Long Haus.

  • Beretta double-barrel shotguns are available for rent in 12, 20, and 28 gauge.
  • Ammo may be purchased in the Pro Shop.
  • Steel shot is required for wobble trap shooting.
  • Eye and ear protection are required and available at the Pro Shop.

"Thank you so much for hosting our 1st and 2nd annual Young Life Clays Shoot. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time there for our fundraisers. Your staff is amazing and has always taken great care of us. The lunch you provided was incredible as well. The facility is first class and the clays course has spectacular views. Many of our participants come to our fundraiser so they can come back or come see Joshua Creek Ranch for the first time. Thank you for being a part of helping Young Life Boerne raise money for our organization. We look forward to many more events with you."

Sporting Clays

State-of-the-art automatic wireless Promatic traps are set up among oak and elm trees to challenge shooters at twelve stations designed to simulate the flights of various gamebirds. The Texas Hill Country view from every station is spectacular in every season. Open daily from 8 am to 6 pm, guests can purchase an access card to shoot from 50 to an unlimited number of targets. The flexibility of the access card makes it easy for guests to choose the stations they want to shoot and the number of targets to shoot at each station. The course is set to be novice-friendly since the fun is in breaking the targets. But for competition, a couple of very challenging stations are added to the mix to separate the great shooters from the good ones!

Wobble Trap (Steel Shot Required)

The close proximity of the wobble trap to Cypress Lodge makes it convenient for warm-up shooting before heading out to the fields for gamebird hunting. And because the area is lighted at night, clay shooting at the wobble trap is available until 9:00 pm for overnight guests for practice, instruction and games. The setting is such that shooters can position themselves to get any angle they want on the target: quartering left or right, going-away, incoming, high overhead, etc. The set-up also offers endless opportunities for shooters and observers to enjoy a variety of shooting games, including “missin’out,” “baseball,” “poison bird,” and more.

Triple Trap Wobbler

With three wobble traps that can be set to launch targets solo, simultaneously, or in a sequence, this clay shooting scenario offers infinite flexibility, especially since it’s on a trailer that can be positioned anywhere on the ranch. Want flushing, passing, or high overhead targets, this set-up can be positioned to give it to you. The triple trap wobbler is especially useful for guests who want to warm-up before driven pheasant shoots.
